About this test
The graduated license program for Idaho requires that anyone under age 17 first hold an instruction permit before applying for a driver’s license. To start, you’ll need to complete a driver’s education course and then pass a written 40 multiple-choice question knowledge test, based on information pulled from the 2024 Idaho Driver’s Manual, of which you’ll need to correctly answer at least 34 questions. Once you have your instruction permit, you’ll be required to hold it for a minimum of six months during which you will only be able to drive while supervised by a licensed driver over 21, while you complete a mandatory 50 hours of driving, a minimum 10 hours of which must be at night. The DMV will require a $3 fee to take your knowledge test and a $15 charge to issue your instruction permit. When you’re ready to test for your license, be prepared to pay additional fees for both the driving test and your driver’s license. Prepare for the knowledge test by using this DMV practice test to help you study and identify problem areas, so you can pass on your first attempt.
